Parent material, order, great group, horizons, etc: class 1: good agriculture, class 7: no agricultural capabilities. Purpose: to relate soil, landscape, and climatic qualities and characteristics to some deined use makes everything simple. Doesn"t care about location just the land. Assumes good management and improvements (e. g. drainage) have been made whoevers running the land does the best they can. Nitrogen, phosphorus, calcium, potassium, oxygen, carbon, hydrogen. Ca, mg, s (often called secondary nutrients) Fe, mn, mo, b, cu, zn, cl, ni. Se (needed for animals only (include if growing animal forage)) Just because micronutrients are required in smaller amounts doesn"t make them less important do not base importance in amount of uptake (how much needed by the plant) We have young soils not widespread micronutrient deiciencies (occur sporadically) We remove a lot of macronutrients every year decrease at a faster rate. Amount of removal depends on what we"re growing.
