Unit 01: introduction to honey bees and beekeeping. Bees and humans (cid:862)bees are a lesson in life. Their life is fascinating and a challenge to understand. We have much to learn about and from them(cid:863) caron 1999. Humans can learn and benefit from both studying and keeping bees. Bees are a study subject that can be used in research to learn about ourselves and nature. They also provide economic benefits to humans such as hive products and increased production of agricultural crops though their pollinating services. Nature photographers include them in their pictures, documentaries, etc. Beneficial and productive insects: honey: food and medicine source. Rich in carbohydrates, vitamins and antibacterial components: crop pollination: highly valued for the pollination value they provide. Beekeeping: the art of providing honey bees a dwelling (a hive) and manage them according to season. Important to learn beekeeping practices over several seasons (experience) and from the literature.
