Ice is moving towards the front, but melting at a higher rate = retreating. Salt water the exit to the ocean is cut of by glacial ice, trapping seawater there. Sodium-salt efected clay lida clays: poor structural stability. Stagnant zone (unless moving) rate of pushing forward = rate of melting: leaves topography really uneven, water erodes away and carries everything but the coarsest material. Soil texture is big rocks and coarse sand.
