In natural ecosystems, this would include physical factors of the species (i. e. can they physically move) In human systems, the capacity for adaptation depends on things like social capitol, economic wealth, and access to technology and existing infrastructure: sometimes an adaptation strategy can lead to an increase of ghg emissions. Example: humans adapt to increasing temperatures by relying on increasing amounts of air-conditioning which can result in fossil fuel combustion.
