To start puberty, increase production of gnrh hormone and releases it in 2 hour pulses: 2 years before puberty starts leptin, driving force behind puberty. As body fat increases, amount of leptin increase: as leptin increases, crosses threshold- this causes increase of production of gnhr, triggers pituitary gland, fhs, lh- stimulates egg and sperm cells. Increases of estrogens and androgens responsible for physical changes during puberty: hair and breast growth. In turn, pituitary signals the gonads to create more hormones.
