Theory- a set of ideas and concepts to describe observed facts. Provides conceptual framework to predict sexual behavior, attitudes and thoughts. Not one theory is correct but multiple can be put together to form an explanation on a certain topic. Charles darwin came up with natural selection in which favorable traits are passed down this helps to enhance reproductive success. Sociobiology- idea that social behavior results from evolution, humans today carry traits that helped our ancestors to reproduce successfully. Men have more preference for short-term mating as it means that more of their genes will be passed on and they will father more children. Women prefer long-term mating in order to create a relationship with the male and nurture a child in the process. In summary, men are more promiscuous as they can produce more heirs to pass on their genes to the next generation. Women can only mother a few children which makes them more highly selective in nature.
