Week 11: trauma related disorders and substance abuse. Characterized by cognitive, behavioural, emotional, and physiological symptoms following traumatic or catastrophic event. Learned of trauma experienced by loved one. Persistent avoidance of distressing memories or cues. Marked alterations in arousal and reactivity (cluster of symptoms) > one month, impair with relationship, not due to substance. Lost or separated from parents = source of emotional, behavioural, and social support needed to cope effectively. People can come and go, and the children do not care. Severe emotional and/or physical neglect and maltreatment. More likely to have a depressed mood or depression. Disinhibited social engagement disorder (ingredients needed to develop social inhibitory control missing) Can have attachments, the problem is there is no differentiation of people. Developmentally, culturally socially inappropriate attachments or comfortableness. These children have more problems with concentration and impulsivity. 1st child came first and was angry and had tantrums.
