Youth aged 16-24 have the highest rates of auto accidents, injuries and fataliies. Accidents are the leading cause of death for this age group. Possible reasons: struggles with impulse control, opimisic bias, more likely to drive under the inluence, inexperienced, think peers will be impressed. Social environment: parents, siblings, peers, community and cultural norms, media, enforcement. Driver characterisics: age, sex, competence, aitudes, personality. Driver educaion: generally hasn"t worked too well, speeds up process to get license. Graduated driver licensing (gdl: more efecive, learning license, restricted license, restrict the condiions under which novices can drive, driving curfews. Highest between 15-25 than any other age group. Rates of use vary across western countries depending on the substance.
