Natural resources are understood to be the desirable and usable parts of the environment. Term environment is less straightforward: environer is a 14th cent french word meaning neighbourhood , the term environment was not used widely until 19th cent. Objective interpretation: the bio-physical world that surrounds and supports us (and all the animals and plants) Explore dominant ways of thinking about enviro-society relations. enviro- objects and the systems / processes that link and change them. society- humans and their systems of culture, politics, and economic exchange. It is impossible to separate enviro and society. Relship b/w humans and enviro are complex: destruction in both directions, attempts to control nature, attempts to improve nature, attempts to live w nature. Many ways to view enviro problems and therefore many diff types of potential situations. Humans and natural world on collision course, earth is finite, its ability to absorb wastes and destructive effluent is finite.
