The colonists were the farmers, which gave them far more autonomy and access to credit compared to europe. Main drivers - farmers, consumers have little in uence. The environment was of little concern: didn"t care if it was being impacted but - there wasn"t that many pesticides, herbicides etc. Family farming was encouraged by the state and massive land settlement occurred. Cash crops were imported from colonies, commodities were exported to colonies: merchant system, 2nd food regime. Extension of state system over former colonies, transnational restructuring and productivist. Food was basic and processed, branding and standardization grew. Env was exploited for maximum pro t: scienti c advancement. State supported productivist agriculture, food aid and cheap food policies: baby boomers had probably the worst diet.
