Thirty years war seen as height of warfare. Frederick v vs ferdinand of styria: 1576-1612 protestant right extended in bohemia, 1617 ferdinand of styria named successor to bohemia. Begins to censor and close down protestant churches: 1618 calvinists revolt. Famously the revolt starts by defenestration of prague- throws catholic advisors out a church window: 1620 elector palatine, frederick v loses battle of white mountain. Fredrick exiled from holy roman empire, goes to holland: 1621 calvinism suppressed in bohemia and later moravia. Calvinism totally outlawed, also suppresses lutheranism - extends it to neighbouring territories of moravia. This problem not just religious problem these changes resulted in 680 confiscations of land of catholic nobles, huge political destruction. Over half nimbler land and estates in bohemia were expropriated and turned to catholic buyers. King of denmark vs. holy roman empire: 1625 denmark enters conflict.
