Called the richest and most wicket city. Border lines defined by trade and conflict. Start 1492 when christopher sailed to the bahamas. Many european countries laid claim on parts of the americas. National honour and matter of money to have colonies on new land: conquest the new world- discoveries and conquer, mercantile empires and wars. The war of spanish succession, tried to avoid the union of france and spain. Wanted no country to be so strong that they could not conquer the other. This led to alliances to balance the power. Trade either goes back and fourth or in a triangular pattern. Amsterdam was the center of the trade. Traded from canada was primarily fur- the hudson bay company. The bay is oldest established company in canada. *sugar was traded from the west indies and the africas. No country should import more than they export.
