Characteristics of pre-modernity: traditional society was tied to the supernatural, traditional, or enduring truths. Institutions underpinned by belief in the supernatural and reference to traditional principles were rigid and changed slowly. Industrial society has abandoned tradition: science and expertise based on reason are the managers of life.
