While unit 2 is looking at specific religions. Cardinal newman is saying that education is not about memorising large chunks of data. Rather, education is about reasoning based on fact. Religion has always been integral to human society. Ordinary people most often follow a religion because they believe it tells truth at the fundamental level of answering questions about existence. Religious professionals - priests, ministers, imams, rabbis, theologians, mystics - define and maintain boundaries of meaning as times change. Communal worship joins believers together to reinforce common understandings of the meaning of existence and simply for human fellowship.
