Objective: to explain how aspects of reformation and overseas expansion emerge from instability of late-middle ages: how humanism emerges from black death crisis. Renaissance means the rebirth of civilization along classical (ancient greek and roman) lines. Use it to define arts, literature, politics, etc . The renaissance doesn"t really correspond to a time period that is clear. Italian renaissance poets wrote in 1350s and high renaissance starts in 1480. Humanism is a way of looking at world where there is a focus on humans and human society. People in middles ages were conditioned to put spirituality first instead of life right now.
