Objective: to show the connection of black death to the cultural renaissance: spread of black death across trade-routes. Mongols had a big role in long distance role. Pax mongolica between west and east allows disease to spread rapidly. End of mongolian empire came hand in hand with black death and they think it hit china first. Killed 2/3 of population with first outbreak. 1340s it spread across asia and then continued west along the silk road. Mongols, aided by venetians, aided siege on kaffa and tried to control it over genoese. Genoese were losing but mongols and venetians began to die off because of black death.
