HIST 2450 Lecture 11: Public History
Document Summary
History that is seen, heard, read and interpreted by a popular audience. Public historians expand on the methods of academic history by emphasizing non-traditional evidence and presentation formats, reframing questions and it the process creating a distinctive historical practice. Allows historians to reach greater audiences outside the academy. Seemingly heavily focused on violent/dramatic events / wars. Fictional history (hbo"s the vikings) vs. actual history: Have we become primarily interested with only the history "of the few" (high politics, the ultra powerful) instead of the history "of the many" (everyday citizens, everyday life)
