The path-goal theory is about how leaders motivate followers to accomplish designated goals. The goal of this leadership theory is to enhance follower performance and follower satisfaction by focusing on follower motivation. In contrast to the situational approach, where the leader must adapt to the developmental levels of the followers, this approach emphasizes the relationship between the leaders" style and the characteristics of the followers and the organizational setting. According to house and mitchell (1974), leadership generates motivation when it increases the number and kinds of payoffs that followers receive from their work. Directive behaviours: a leader who gives followers instructions about their task, including what is expected of them, how it is to be done, and the timeline for when it should be completed.
