MICR 3220 Lecture Notes - Lecture 29: Xylem, Fusarium, Pectin
Document Summary
Its like driving and you keep running into red lights. They continue to expand and will eventually block the xylem vessels. It is a living membrane inside of the cell. This prevents the microconidia from flowing upward to another end-wall which stops their growth. The high molecular weight digestion products (gels) start to fill up the xylem vessels which serves to block the xylem. Production of phenols: produced and incorporated with the gels and tyloses. Phenols give the material a brown color and makes it resistant to cell wall degrading enzymes. The result is that even if microconidia run up against the walls, they will be inhibited. Characteristic of this disease is vascular browning, this symptom is caused by the phenols. In a resistant plant, during the trapped phase, further up in the plant of the stream, the gums, blebs, and tyloses will be formed infused with phenols. This is the end of its spread inside of the plant.
