Fluid: moves freely, adapts to shape of container its in. Body fluid is the liquid portion of our cells and tissues. As we age, body water content decreases (75% as infant, 50% as elder) Intracellular luid: fluid inside walls of cells (2/3) Extracellular luid: fluid outside cells as: 1) body tissues. Tissue luid (interstitial luid) lows bwn cells that make up organs (i. e. liver, muscle ibres: 2) plasma (liquid portion of blood) Carries red blood cells: 3) digestive juices. Lean tissue= 70% luid, fat tissue= 10-20% luid. Males more lean tissue and body luid. Body luid is composed of water and dissolved substances called electrolytes. Solutes in water are critical to life: sodium, potassium, chloride, phosphorus (electrolytes- seperate, form ions/charged particles, in table salt, sodium & potassium = , chloride & phosphorus = - Dissolve and transport substances: solvent: mixes and breaks apart (i. e. water, since fats don"t dissolve, attach to water-soluble proteins to be transported in bloodstream.
