Explain how the different levels of government provide health promotion and public health. The process of enabling people to increase control over, and to improve, their health. Ex. policies around land use planning, where we put grocery stores, how agriculture is subsidized. Ex. social norms that support healthful behaviours; social marketing campaigns. Ex. have community members involved in shaping their communities and public policy. Individual level knowledge and skills are still important. To include preventive services - try to keep people healthy versus just treating disease. Activities aimed at preventing the occurrence of a specific illness of disease; precedes disease; aimed at the general healthy public. Ex. session on eating to prevent cancer; immunizations. Activities focused on early identification of health problems/diseases; identify and treat individuals who have asymptomatic/preclinical disease. Activities aimed at rehabilitation of an individual with the disease to return individual to an optimum level of functioning. Teaching a person with diabetes how to prevent and manage complications.
