For it be synthesized proline and lysine has to be hydroxylated. This hydroxylation requires iron as a cofactor in its reduced from (ferrous +2). Vit c keeps iron in its reduced form therby allowing it act as a cofactor in hydroxylation of proline and lysine residuses allowing collagen synthesis to occur. Role in carnitine synthesis / fa oxidation. For fatty acid axoidation it must be transported into mitchondira via carnitine shuttle. Carnitine shuttle is synthesized from methionine and lysine, both of wich are dependant on iron. Iron has to in reduced form to hydroxylated them. And vit c keeps iron in reduced form.
