Highest sensitivity to protein status retinol binding protein. Static test: measure a nutrient or its metabolites in blood, urine, or other body tissue. Reflects either total body content of the nutrient, or the size of the tissue store that is most sensitive to depletion. Ex: serum albumin is a measure of protein status. When measuring is accurate, there is little to no difference b/t the true and reported concentration (use reference values) Sensitive measures are able to detect small changes in nutrition status smallest concentration can be distinguished from blank (analytical sensitivity) or the minimum detection limit. Blank should have the same matrix as the test sample. Specificity ability of an analytical test to measure exclusively the substance of interest. (only the nutrient of interest) 10 people (healthy) will appear to be positive (diseased) for that test. Functional test: measure outcomes of nutrient deficiency (or excess) Have greater biological significance than the static test.
