PHIL 2140 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Chocolate Chip, Iliad, Beautiful Music
Document Summary
The world that we experience is always dying and being reincarnated. The sun is new each day and everything is always becoming something else . Everything turns into something else-he uses the metaphor of a circle and the beginning and the end are the same. Life and death in a circle, ending and beginning in the same place. Mortal mortals, mortal immortals, living the deaths of the others and dying their life. The whole is immortal, and the individuals are mortal (perspective shift) the universe is one- immortal, individual mortals, different sides of the same coin. Things taken together (whole) = universe, not whole=individual. The immortals return to this unity, it"s not part of a cycle it"s a perspective switch each one agates the other pg. 49-81. A circle begins and ends in the same place. God is experienced as multiple states, you have fire + insecents but you don"t smell fire, you smell the cinnamon you put in it.
