PHIL 2160 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Four Causes, Hard Ball, Ontological Argument
Document Summary
All human beings by nature, desire to know . Our soul is the animated principle within us. Humans are born with an inclination towards knowledge (we know this through our nature, not by habit) Our nature is something we are born with. We desire to know because of our appreciation for the senses. All of our ideas start from sense- perception. The soul does not survive the death of the body. Animals, plants and humans all have separate souls. Humans (rational soul)= reproduction, nutrition, sensation, locomotion, intellect, will. Understand things through rational ways rather then god. Change is the process of something potentially becoming something actual. Only what exists can cause change and has the potential to create change. (us we can melt the ice) Through heat the ice cube would go from potentially a liquid to actually being a liquid. Parmenides disagrees thinks things seem as though they are changing but they are not.
