49 views3 pages

Document Summary

Wisdom (sophia) is the science of first causes and principles. Wisdom is the universal science, first principles and its end is the supreme good. It is born of wonder and has no end other than itself. Different causes and different ways of operating. Causes can be many things (explanation of an end) 4 ways of substance: essence, universal, genus, substratum. Ultimate substratum is not any thing in particular. Everything that comes to be does so through the agency of something. There are different kinds of generation: generation by nature, by art and by chance. 8 ) the matter and form are not generated, there is that generation of the compound. Two things may be different in matter, but are the same form, since the form is indivisible. 6) there is a first unmoved mover. The first two substances have already been discussed; the sensitive substances and the mobile eternal substances. Not everything that has potency is actualized.
