That religion tends to be of the hypocritical so this section is a suggestion that the whole tradition is superficial. One of the things that katha upanisad does is show what a real sacrificed consists in. Father doesn"t answer the question immediately then he says to death i give you! so he is also evidently annoyed/angry: contrast between internal and external religion: External giving away what one doesn"t need as sacrifice, for example.
