Meditation is a separate activity with the self, not needed to have a god. Some within religions will meditation as well but aren"t necessarily attached. Recent indian philosophy seems to find similar path to western phil of science. Many western philosophies focus on science now, very dominant. Within indian, you get not only spiritual but also analytical. Similar ideals crossing over with different emphasis. Plato, forms, allegory of the cave vs. indian. Aristotle, book 10, highest fulfillment is the same as god, pure thinking. Sophisticated study of logic -can compare to aristotle. Carvaka (lokayata) (materialism): the only thing that exists is matter- a belief, all these things talk about experiencing that are meant to be spiritual don"t actually exist. Artha shastra (199) wealth and wealth alone is important . Along with materialism, there was emphasis on wealth because this is the basis for anything, can have anything you want, so this is what counts.
