Jupiter, saturn, uranus, and neptune lack solid surfaces, are much larger, rotate much faster, and have very different chemical compounds than the terrestrial planets. Multicolour bands, dotted with ovals or white and brown. Largest planet in the solar system, 318 x larger than earth. 2 x more mass than any of the other planets. Emits twice as much energy as it receives from the sun, which comes from the radioactive elements in its core. Because it rotates once every 10 hours, the clouds are in constant motion and are confined to narrow bands of latitude these bands are called belts. Some of the apparent bands are actually light coloured bands called zones, which are white at the top because of the ammonia vapour. The belts on zones flow east to west with hardly any north and south movement. White ovals and brown ovals are could storms similar to hurricanes or cyclones on earth and can last from hours to centuries.
