Integral to politics, relations of authority: authority: power through social relations, we accept it, authority is mediated power (max weber, at the heart of the exercise of power in a system of power. Idea of human reason: devine order is rejected, conventional: can change, fashioned by human reason, progressing, action and agency is very important. In bringing about change produce new identities, new knowledge within relations of power. If you understand gender, hegemony as relational, then it is dynamic and we can understand how it operates. In order to be feminine, you have to convince the masculine. Pols 2150: we lose the sense of personal responsibility and agency involved in our participation, system is a vague. Important: can be involved in oppression without being personally oppressive in your intentions, may see those misogynous practices as normal. Is a concept of hegemonic masculinity or femininity useful: yes they are useful in helping us think about it.
