October 3, 2013: for realists, the un is a useless body, they are just an institution, politics is still about real states attempting to ensure their national security, it is a bluff, may help in emergencies or crisis but it does not have nay power, it is meaningless real power. Opening up the black box: looking at processes, personalities, opinions, etc. to understand, people learn that ideas matter, and that anarchy does not equate to wars, states don"t want to go to war unless it is in self defense, one of the best ways to encourage peace is to assert popular rule such as in democracy as you are less likely to get war. Opinion is going to be expressed: more democracy you have the more international peace, first to make connection between democracy and peace, cobden, first to make connection between free trade and peace, 3 main ideas.
