(signals that there are still questions: used for rhetorical/strategic purposes, second wave coined to be a unifying term during the time of feminist action from the 60s to 80s. Incomplete histories: what is left out: they are not so self-contained but each is portrayed as monolithic and narrow in popular consciousness, there are incomplete histories of the first and second waves. Why is it important to understand continuity as well as disruption: we can learn from understanding the situation and tactics of the different ears, the context has changed as have the tactics.
