Document Summary

Motivation- concerns the physiological and psychological processes underlying the initiation of behaviours that direct organisms toward specific goals. These motives include thoughts, feelings, sensations, and bodily processes that lead to goal directs behaviours. When body"s water levels drop below normal, cells release chemical compounds that maintain structure and fluid levels of cells. Receptors respond to increased concentration of compounds as well as lower water volume and send messages to the brain. Allostasis- motivation is influenced by current and future needs: because we cannot predict all our future needs, psychological variables can have an influence on behaviours such as eating and drinking. Brain areas interact with other brain areas that control our appetite. Humans evolved in environments where food was not plentiful or rich. Humans learned that best strategy is to eat while you can. We developed bodies that were hard- wired to like some foods more than others.
