Chapter 1: civility, communication, and commerce (pg: 1-12) Many think of civility as just a glorified term for manners . It has the image of being something nice to have, but not really a necessity. By observing more consistent patterns of civility in all relationships, we improve our local and global communities in ways that allow groups to come together to solve the other problems in our society. Civility is perceived as both a catch-all label and as a minimum standard of behavior. The term has even been used to describe automobiles that handle particularly smoothly. Today implies that civility may refer to general standards of etiquette, manners, decorum, or politeness. Standards of civility on airplanes, in-class rooms, concert halls, etc. Apparent meaning seems to be a set of basic behaviours that show respect for others sharing our space and provide for smooth accomplishment of whatever goals are applicable in that space.
