Isomorphic attribution (triantis, 1977)- if the listener and the speaker make the same attribution, then we have successful communication. If you understand it the way the speaker intends you to understand it, then you have isomorphic communication. This can go wrong when cultures are crossed. E(cid:454)a(cid:373)ple: (cid:862)i (cid:449)a(cid:374)t to sleep (cid:449)ith(cid:863) in some cultures they attribute this to a sexual advancement, but in other cultures, this means that a person trusts you enough to sleep beside you. In individualistic cultures, people tend to focus on the individual as determining the cause of behaviour. People attribute success to ability and failure is attributed to external factors. In collectivistic cultures, people tend to give greater emphasis to external causes of individual behaviour. People attribute success to help from others and to the lack of effort.
