Individualist (allport: there is nothing more to a group than the people who comprise it (cid:224) There is something more about the collection; the behavior of the group as a collection is different from the behavior of the individual group members; i. e. the analogy of water. Group structure: norms, ways of specifying what are acceptable (or unacceptable) attitudes and behaviors of group members, central vs. general norms. General norms = not strict; they are modifiable; there is an expectation, but there are not severe consequences for breaking them; i. e. men kissing women goodnight, but men not kissing men goodnight, clothing. Central = associated with center values of the culture; by breaking these norms, you get punished; i. e. child abuse, theft.
