Le bon described three characteristics of crowds: anonymity people in crowd are anonymous. If you don"t claim responsibility for your behaviour in a crowd then the rest of the crowed won"t. *mental unity* - all think the same and do the same. Alternative view: allport (1924) was highly critical of le bon and argued: 2013: the individual in the crowd behaves just as he would behave alone only more so , the crowd doesn"t make people mad. Students and other subjects became completely absorbed by their role playing. Some students/subjects were released due to emotional reasons: power of situation!
