Document Summary

Predict important events in the environments and we label the important events as us. When one of these events occurs and tis not expected, the organism will nd a predictor of that event. Nding the predictor implies learning and learning occurs when you are actually in a state of surprise (something happening to you that s going against your expectation) The model is a mathematical expression of surprise: Learning will occur only when the subject is surprise - that is, when what happens is different from what the subject expected to happen. Don t care about the tone because they know the light is the predictor of food (only focused on the light) There is no learning in phase 2 for the blocking group. This experiment is important because it shows that: conditioning is not an automatic result of cs-us pairings, for conditioning to occur, the cs must be informative and the us surprising.
