Document Summary
Chapter 11: factorial design: outline, the research question: An evolutionary perspective on effective vs. ineffective pick-up lines. Journal of social psychology, 150, 648-667: seventy college females imagined a male approaching them and using a pick-up line (cute/flippant, innocuous, or direct). Participants were told that he was either attractive or unattractive, or received no information about him. Participants rated the male on several traits, including intelligence, humor, and trustworthiness, as well as their willingness to speak with him, and whether they would have a long-term or short-term relationship with him. Women indicated that they were less likely to talk with a male or have a long-term relationship with a man who used a cute/flippant line, regardless of how attractive he was. Women perceived males who used the cute/flippant line as less trustworthy and intelligent than a man who used a direct or innocuous line: herz, r. s. , & inzlicht, m. (2002).
