PSYC 2390 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Necker Cube, Fluid Compartments, Extracellular Fluid
Document Summary
Transduction changing energy from one point to another. Hearing (sound [mechanical energy] electricity [nerve pulses/action potentials]) Interpretation making sense of objects and events in the world. Vision (the necker cube - the side in the front can switch" depending on how you look at it) Distant distal stimulation(energy from object or event in the world proximal stimulation (pattern of energy on our body). The distal stimulation is basically the object being viewed, and the proximal stimulation is the energy/image being transduced in the back of the retina. The nervous system - basically biological wires" within the body. Genetic info is stored in the cell body. The branches around the body are the dendrites. They are the receivers that help information travel through the body. The axon sends info out from the cell body, which lead to the axon terminal at the end. These terminal fibers almost touch other neurons; but not quite. Smaller, skinnier axons send info/electrical pulses more slowly.
