Document Summary
Sept 30, 2014 psych 2390: the retina. 1-4 (description, photoreceptors, collectors, blind spot: disorders/problems of the retina, detached retina. Retina is lifting up off the back of the eyeball. Can get from getting hit really hard. When the retina develops a hole the rods and cones are destroyed (causes blind spot because of no photo receptor where hole is). When the retina tries to scar you get scar tissue which you cannot see out of. You can become blind due to a detached retina (sugar ray robbinson) A heating or cooling probe is inserted that can encourage healing. People don"t notice blind spots at first: diabetic retinopathy. Diabetes; body is not producing enough insulin to use all of our sugar. Diabetes effects circulation; high blood pressure problems, not very good circulation to feet (need to remove them). Diabetic retinopathy is the problem of blood circulation to the retina. Our eye uses up a lot of nutrition.
