Early self concept: proprioceptive feedback, personal agency, self-recognition. Have to cognitively be able to separate yourself from the world. Recognize themselves as being the reflection but at the same time as being separate from it. Parents who often scaffold self-recognition child will recognize themselves earlier. Recognize that they have different versions of themselves. False-self behaviors: recognitions that they are behaving in psychological awareness self behaviors ways that are not who they are. Stage of psychosocial development: identity vs. role confusion. Identity one fits into society: self-definition, sense of who one is, where one is going in life, and how. Erikson"s identity crisis in adolescence: uncertainty and discomfort at confusion about one"s role in life. Identity status in adolescence: identity diffusion, foreclosure. Define an identity based on social acceptance; does not question it. At some point, adolescents go through the crisis.
