LECTURE 51CHILDBIRTH AND THE PERINATAL ENVIRONMENTALThere are 3 stages of labourSTAGE 1begins when contractions are 1015 minutes apart the cervix is fully dilated at 10cm by the end of this stageSTAGE 2is when delivery occurs the head passes through the cervixSTAGE 3is when the placenta is deliveredits just as big as the babymehn2LABOUR AND DELIVERY MEDICATIONToo much pain can create stresscomplications for the baby and loss of blood flow can occur so medications are administered to alleviate symptoms They do however have their own side effects such as the baby being sluggish having an irregular heartbeat and trouble sucking after deliveryANALGESICSADEMEROL is administered 23 hours prior to delivery can cause a drop in mothers blood pressure
