PSYC 2650 Lecture 7: Thursday, Sept 27/2012 - Lecture 7
Document Summary
Midterm: midterm is a week from today, midterm is up to and including this tuesday (working memory, working memory is featured prominently on the midterm. Dual-task studies: subjects asked to do two thiings in time, and both require attentional resources, criticism to cognitive psychology is that it often has low ecological validity. \it takes approximately 400ms to attend to the visual tasks, and when the auditory stimuli is presented 400 ms or later after the visual task there is no performance deficit in the second task. Interference is the delay in response time related to the response time of the previous task: discussing response time, not accuracy, speed-accuracy tradeoff -> going faster generally creates more accuracy mistakes. In order to compare reaction time, one has to control for accuracy. Long soa: without the overlap of the two tasks, there is no cognitive interference, there is now no cost in response time.
