PSYC 2740 Lecture 2: PSYCH 2740 LECTURE
Document Summary
Lecture: theoretical & measurement issues in trait psychology. Theoretical issues: meaningful individual differences (sometimes called differential psychology, stability over time (might not be exactly the same but should be high, high at at another point, consistency across situations (carry your traits through these) Traits are consistent over time, but manifestations of trait may vary (how it is presented) * rank order: with a change in a given trait, a relative difference remains between individuals. Even if it goes down, it will still be higher as they experienced the same change but will be high again at some point. ex: impulsivity graph (people maintain some rank order over time) Trait -> behaviour -> situation (situationalism) -> some sort of interaction between both (situation x trait) interacts with different variables. Traits in some way contribute to how we act within situations ex: talkative with people will not always be talking hence, not during midterms or funerals or movie theatres.
