Involves interpretive knowledge organization/integration of disparate events: characteristics, variable vividness (ex. flashbulb memories, retrieval rate mush slower than memories for information learned in the lab, autobiographical memories are much more complex. Methodological difficulties with studying autobiographical memory: many studies assume that participants, can remember autobiographical memories, can remember what evoked their remembrances, are aware of the different functions of their memories, can reliably categorize their memories. Long period of events organized around a common theme (broadest level: provide structure to a life narrative, often provides unifying information a(cid:271)out a perso(cid:374)(cid:859)s goals or prefere(cid:374)(cid:272)es. Language development view memories become more language influenced. Flashbulb memories: highly detailed memories for the content and context in which surprising news was heard.
