Literature tells us that there is no relationship between physical punishment and warmth from parents. Level 3 what type of self manifests what type of behaviour: self (independent-interdependent) psychological correlates (emotions, perceptions, social behaviour, etc. ) Level 2 how do variations in self emerge: socialization (child-rearing, family interaction) self. Level 1 why does a certain type of socialization occur in a certain type of context: context (socio-economic-cultural-ecological) socialization. Body contact and body stimulations are found to be more characteristic of the collectivistic agrarian traditional cultures in africa. It is conductive to the development of relatedness with others. The face to face system is more common in middle class, urban western context. It is conductive to the child"s development of a sense of independent agency. How parents hold their children leads to a particular type of self that develops into different types of behaviour and emotions.
