Sensori-motor (0-2 years): schemes (ex. looking, reaching, sucking, manual manipulation) involve interactions with objects and space, not very internalized - not representational or symbolic ! Preoperational (2-7 years): uses symbols (images, words) but operations are not reversible , egocentric, rigid, semi-logical ! Concrete operations (7-11 years): operations = internalized actions that can be reversed , only external/concrete operations that do not involve abstract hypothetical thinking ! Formal operations (11+ years): operations on abstract, hypothetical thinking including other operations such as hypotheses !
