Brain regions that are bidirectional and interconnected throughout the entire brain. Makes it difficult to study: major area: prefrontal cortex. The control center of the executive functions in the different regions that it connects to: minor areas. Helps adjust brain function in response to the environment. Connects executive functions to emotions (in amygdala) Stored episodic memory important for supporting executive functions. Time 1: fixate on center but encode object location. Time 3: move eyes to where object was: activity in lateral pfc neurons during working memory task. Different neurons respond to different types of working memory. When matching information is present they make a response. Nonmatching rule (cue is a high tone)
