Minimally conscious state: awake with inconsistent awareness. Locked-in syndrome: awake and aware, but impaired in the production of voluntary motor behaviour. Not all patients would show this (10-20%) Can switch yellow panel to be back panel or front panel, what are the neural. Only one image would be perceived at a time: study: Upward motion presented to 1 eye, downward motion presented to the other. Identified cells with a spatial receptive field and a preferred direction of motion: preference for upward. Low activation for upward motion when both go up, low for downward motion. When aware of upward motion there is more activity in cell. When aware of downward motion there is less activity in cell, upward motion is suppressed. Neural response follows change in conscious percept, even when sensory stimuli are held constant.
